Embracing AI: a productivity game-changer

I’ve been transcribing audio to text since 2002, when I started my first job as an intern at a broadcasting news radio station. Early on, one of my main tasks was editing lengthy interview recordings and transcribing audio to text, which was essential for audience members who preferred reading summaries over listening to the entire program.

Back then, transcribing a 30-minute interview could take hours of focused work. Recently, however, while leading an editorial project for a client, I needed to transcribe a 35-minute interview with a specialist in consumer behavior. This time, I turned to Veed, an AI-powered transcription and video editing tool. In less than five minutes, the entire interview was converted to text, freeing me up to focus on refining the article rather than spending hours transcribing.

Just a year ago, I was highly skeptical about AI. With limited knowledge on the subject, I even doubted whether AI could benefit my work at all. Fortunately, a project manager encouraged me to try ChatGPT as a “real-life” text editor to improve my productivity. Almost instantly, I noticed the difference. Well-structured sentences, rapid grammar checks, and a wealth of fresh ideas for overcoming writer’s block were just a few of the ways AI began supporting my work.

Over the past year, I’ve integrated several AI-based tools into my routine, including Veed, Canva Pro, and ChatGPT. Tasks that used to take significant time to perfect, such as removing video backgrounds, now take mere seconds. As a busy working mom, I’m grateful for any tool that helps me work more efficiently without sacrificing quality.

But it’s essential to remain cautious and not assume that AI is a flawless solution. While these platforms enhance my productivity, they are not substitutes for my expertise or personal touch. Recognizing the potential risks of AI, I approach these tools with a balanced, careful perspective.

This awareness is echoed on the global stage. Recently, United Nations member states adopted the Global Digital Compact, the first international agreement aimed at regulating artificial intelligence. This compact emphasizes the need for AI to be used responsibly, with an emphasis on creating a digital future that is inclusive, safe, and fair for all. The agreement acknowledges the incredible potential of emerging technologies while recognizing the accompanying risks, some of which are still unknown.

As this global initiative unfolds, I’m curious to hear from others: Do you believe this agreement will make a meaningful difference in how AI impacts our lives? Share your thoughts with me over LinkedIn!
